Gamma Kappa Alumni, Inc. Scholarship Awards & University Allocations

The Legacy Continues

In alignment with our core mission—“The Legacy Continues”—Gamma Kappa Alumni, Inc. provides impactful financial awards directly to undergraduate and dual-enrollment students at Clark Atlanta University, while offering direct institutional support to the university itself. Managed entirely under our independent 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit status, these initiatives are designed to alleviate financial burdens, reward academic excellence, and fortify our historic alma mater.

Our fundraising efforts, culminating in the annual Homecoming Fundraising Weekend, directly fund our core scholarship tiers and university contributions:

As a trailblazing attorney and politician, he served as the President of the Atlanta City Council for 17 years and later as a Fulton County Superior Court Judge. His life and career epitomize the heights of leadership, jurisprudence, and unyielding dedication to the advancement of the city of Atlanta and its historic institutions.

He served as the 17th Southeastern Province Polemarch, leading the province with unparalleled distinction, integrity, and vision. Known for his unwavering commitment to undergraduate development, civic mentorship, and community empowerment, his leadership set the gold standard for what it means to achieve in every field of human endeavor.

4. The William James Breeding Sr. Dual Enrollment Scholarship

Award Amount: $500 per recipient (Up to 3 scholarships awarded annually)

Purpose: Awarded to outstanding students who are dually enrolled at Booker T. Washington High School and Clark Atlanta University.

The Legacy Behind the Award: This scholarship is named in honor of William James Breeding Sr., who joined Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. in 1949 at Clark College (now Clark Atlanta University) and went on to become a 1951 charter member of the Gamma Kappa Chapter. He was a true trailblazer in our history—when his local high school curriculum finished at the 11th grade, he completed his 12th-grade studies at Booker T. Washington High School while simultaneously beginning his coursework at Clark College. This remarkable achievement made him the very first member of the chapter to be a dual-enrollment student.

Impact: This award supports ambitious young scholars walking in his exact footsteps, providing a $500 stipend to help cover tuition, fees, and textbook costs to bridge the gap between secondary education and early collegiate success.

5. The Professional Development & Internship Stipend

Purpose: Designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world career success by funding experiential learning opportunities.

Focus: Provides supplemental stipends to students who have secured competitive, out-of-state, or unpaid summer internships, helping them cover critical expenses like professional wardrobe, relocation, commuting, or housing.

Impact: Allows students to accept high-profile career opportunities that they might otherwise have to decline due to localized living expenses.

Direct Institutional Impact: Institutional Donation to CAU

In lieu of individual completion grants, Gamma Kappa Alumni, Inc. makes a direct institutional donation to Clark Atlanta University.

Purpose: This general fund contribution is presented directly to university leadership to strengthen the institution’s overall operational resources, expand general campus infrastructure, and fortify CAU’s capability to serve the student body at large.

Accountability, Transparency, and University Alignment

To maintain the highest standards of philanthropic integrity, all student scholarship disbursements and institutional donations follow a strictly structured process:

Direct Institutional Disbursement: Scholarship funds are never written directly to individuals; instead, they are disbursed directly to the Clark Atlanta University Office of Financial Aid to be credited immediately to the recipient’s student account.

Independent Review Board: Recipients are vetted through a formal application and essay process reviewed by the Gamma Kappa Alumni, Inc. Scholarship Committee, ensuring fair, non-biased allocations based strictly on need, merit, and chapter affiliation.

By funding these strategic tiers and supporting the university directly, Gamma Kappa Alumni, Inc. ensures that every dollar raised goes beyond a temporary fix—it builds a permanent bridge toward corporate, civic, and global achievement for the next generation of CAU scholars.
